Origin

The Meyer lemon, is a citrus fruit native to the east and is thought to be a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange. It was introduced to western growers by agricultural explorer Frank Nicholas Meyer who collected a sample of the plant on a trip to China.

Flowering/fruiting

The exquisite Lisa is one of our most popular miniature citrus houseplants, producing a small, surprisingly sweet, lemon-flavoured fruit. Lisa has proven an ideal citrus plant for the British climate due to it’s high resistance to cooler temperatures. Happy indoors or on a sheltered patio in the warmer months, Lisa show her thanks with a nearly year-round display of fragrant white blossom…and crop after crop of zesty fruit. The Meyer fruit became popular as a food item in the United States after being rediscovered by chefs such as Alice Waters at the end of the 1990s. This popularity only increased when Martha Stewart began featuring them in her recipes. Lisa’s sweet lemony-limey fruit can be eaten straight from the plant or used as an attractive ingredient for cooking or desserts. Truly versatile it even makes a splendid garnish for a summer cocktail on the patio…
